Dolfijnen voor de boeg onderweg naar St. Michaels Mount - Dolphins at the bow on our way to St. Michaels Mount

Tridens heeft afgelopen maandag 14 maart om 12:00 UTC de haven van Scheveningen verlaten. We varen door het Kanaal over een prachtig en gladde zee. Enkele uren varen voor Lands End tuigt de bemanning alvast het materiaal op voor de calibratie. Terwijl ze daarmee bezig zijn, verschijnen er dolfijnen voor de boeg.

Tridens left the port of Scheveningen last Monday, March 14 at 12:00 UTC. We sail through the Channel on a beautiful and smooth sea. A few hours sailing before arriving at Lands End, the crew is already rigging up the equipment for the calibration. While they are doing that, dolphins appear in front of the bow.

Op dinsdagavond om 18:00 UTC gaan we voor anker in Penzance Bay, met uitzicht op St. Michaels Mount. De metalen bollen worden aan de vier hengels onder het schip gehangen. Lees onder andere in deze aflevering van de blog hoe de calibratie in zijn werk gaat.

'Savonds voeren we al de calibraties van de 38, 70, 120 en 200 kHz transducers uit. Normaal gesproken lukt dit niet in het donker, omdat dan visjes vanaf de bodem naar boven zwemmen en beginnen te spelen met de calibratie-bol. Dit keer gaat het echter erg goed. De calibraties zijn alle vier van zeer goede kwaliteit.

In the evening we perform all the calibrations of the 38, 70, 120 and 200 kHz transducers. Normally this is not possible in the dark, because then fish swim up from the bottom and start playing with the calibration sphere. This time, however, it goes very well. All four calibrations are of very good quality.
