Tridens blijft tot vrijdagochtend 14 maart in Bantry Bay om alle transducers van het echolood te calibreren. Dit gaat voorspoedig voor de frekwenties 18, 38, 70 en 120 kHz. De transducers van de 200 en 333 kHz blijken beschadigd te zijn en zijn dus niet te gebruiken. Gelukkig zijn deze frekwenties niet ssentieel voor dit onderzoek.

Om 9:00 GMT verlaaat de Tridens Bantry Bay en vaart richting het begin van het eerste transect op de rand van het continentale plat. Voordat we beginnen, voeren we eerst diepe vistrek uit op ongeveer duiend meter.

Tridens remains in Bantry Bay until Friday morning, March 14, to calibrate all transducers of the echo sounder. This works well for the frequencies 18, 38, 70 and 120 kHz. The transducers of the 200 and 333 kHz appear to be damaged and therefore cannot be used. Fortunately, these frequencies are not essential for this research.

At 9:00 GMT the Tridens Bantry Bay leaves and heads towards the beginning of the first transect on the edge of the continental shelf. Before we start, we first carry out deep haul at about thousands of meters.

Op zaterdagochtend 15 maart om 5:03 GMT starten we met het eerste transect vanaf 51.04.45N-11.78.00W in westelijke richting. Om 14:55 GMT, varen we een stukje naar het noorden en beginnen om 15:17 51.07.90N-13.30.48W op het volgende transect verder naar het westen. Op zondag 16 maart 1:40 GMT, bereiken we het einde van het transect, zetten koers naar het noorden en beginnen om 2:43 GMT op 51.24.41N-16.00.45W aan het volgende transect in oostelijke richting. Om 13:18 op 51.24.91N-13.30.04W starten we (na 2.35 nmi naar het zuiden) op een nieuw transect verder naar het oosten. Daarna:

om 22:41 GMT, einde transect, 51.22.38N-11.07.61W, koers NNW

om 23:57 GMT, start nieuw transect, 51.39.33N-11.21.35W, koers west

Helaas zien we geen blauwe wijting op het echogram. Gelukkig is er weinig wind en dus weinig golven.

On Sunday, March 16, 1:40 GMT, we reach the end of the transect, head north, and begin the next transect eastbound at 2:43 GMT at 51.24.41N-16.00.45W. At 13:18 at 51.24.91N-13.30.04W we start (after 2.35 nmi to the south) on a new transect further east. Afterwards:

Unfortunately, we do not see blue whiting on the echogram. Fortunately, there is little wind and therefore few waves.
