Na Sint Patrick's Day (zondag 17 maart) zijn we op maandag 18 maart om 10:00 UTC vertrokken vanuit de haven van Cork. In de week hiervoor hebben we en calibratie uitgevoerd voor de kust bij Bideford, Cornwell, nadat het vanwege de wind niet mogelijk bleek om dit te doen bij St. Michael's Mount. Ook bij Bideford waren de omstandigheden niet ideaal. Het schip lag weliswaar goed beschut tegen de wind, maar er stond veel getijde-stroming. Uit eindelijk konden we alleen de belangrijkste frequentie - 38kHz - calibreren. Als we tijd over hebben aan het einde van de survey, zullen we een tweede calibratie uitvoeren.
After St Patrick's Day (Sunday 17 March) we departed from Cork harbour on Monday 18 March at 10:00 UTC. The previous week we carried out a calibration off the coast at Bideford, Cornwell, after the wind made it impossible to do this at St. Michael's Mount. Conditions at Bideford were also not ideal. Although the ship was well sheltered from the wind, there was a lot of tidal current. In the end we were only able to calibrate the most important frequency - 38kHz. If we have time left at the end of the survey, we will perform a second calibration.

Op dinsdag 19 maart om 10:55 zijn we aangekomen op de geplande startlocatie 51.43.30N - 013.30.00W. Na een CTD-opname zijn we begonnen aan het eerste transect in westelijke richting. Op Porcupine Bank om 14:27 zien we een blauwe laag tot ongeveer 75m hoogte boven de bodem (390m) met daarboven (op 300m) scholen. We zetten het net uit en vangen 1000kg blauwe wijting.
On Tuesday March 19 at 10:55 we arrived at the planned starting location 51.43.30N - 013.30.00W. After a CTD downcast we started the first transect in a westerly direction. On Porcupine Bank at 14:27 we see a blue layer up to about 75m above the bottom (390m) with schools above it (at 300m). We shoot the net and catch 1000kg of blue whiting.
